Introduction
Use this guide to help maintain your laser system, reduce downtime, protect critical components, and support safe, reliable operation over time.
1. Daily Visual Inspection
Before each work period, visually inspect the system and surrounding area.
Check for:
• Loose covers, missing fasteners, dents, or signs of impact.
• Damaged hoses, cables, optics, connectors, or handpieces.
• Fluid leaks, unusual odors, contamination, or visible debris.
• Warning lights, error messages, or abnormal startup behavior.
• Obstructed vents, blocked fans, or restricted access to emergency stops.
Do not operate equipment that appears damaged or unsafe.
2. Lens and Protective Window Care
Optics are critical wear items and should be handled carefully.
Recommended habits include:
• Inspect protective windows and lenses before operation when accessible.
• Look for cracks, burns, spatter, residue, cloudiness, or discoloration.
• Use only manufacturer-approved cleaning procedures, wipes, and solvents.
• Replace protective windows or consumable optics when contamination or damage is visible.
• Never touch optical surfaces with bare fingers.
Operating with dirty or damaged optics may reduce performance and can damage downstream components.
3. Cooling System Checks
Many industrial laser systems rely on proper cooling to operate safely.
Routine checks may include:
• Confirm coolant level is within the manufacturer’s recommended range.
• Inspect hoses, fittings, filters, reservoirs, and connections for leaks.
• Verify chiller, pump, fan, or cooling indicators show normal operation.
• Keep cooling vents and intake areas clear of dust and obstruction.
• Use only coolant type and service intervals recommended by the manufacturer.
Stop operation if overheating warnings, low-flow errors, or cooling alarms occur.
4. Cable and Connector Inspection
Cables and connectors should remain clean, secure, and undamaged.
Inspect for:
• Pinched, crushed, cut, or abraded cable jackets.
• Loose plugs, damaged pins, bent terminals, or missing locking hardware.
• Excessive strain at cable ends, hose connections, or handpiece connections.
• Heat marks, melted insulation, corrosion, or contamination.
• Cables routed across sharp edges, traffic paths, or hot work areas.
Replace or service damaged cables before returning equipment to operation.
5. Work Area Cleanliness
A clean work area helps protect equipment and improves operator safety.
Recommended practices:
• Remove combustible materials, dust buildup, loose debris, and unnecessary tools.
• Keep laser work areas free of reflective clutter and trip hazards.
• Store lenses, nozzles, accessories, and consumables in clean containers.
• Keep equipment surfaces clean and dry according to manufacturer guidance.
• Maintain clear access around the system for ventilation, inspection, and emergency response.
Do not allow grinding dust, coating residue, oil, or moisture to collect near sensitive components.
6. Airflow and Ventilation
Airflow supports equipment cooling, fume control, and safe work practices.
Check that:
• Air intakes, filters, vents, and exhaust paths are unobstructed.
• Fume extraction or local ventilation is operating when required.
• Filters are inspected and replaced on the manufacturer’s recommended schedule.
• Hoses, ducts, and extraction arms are properly positioned and not damaged.
• The work area has appropriate ventilation for the materials being processed.
Pause work if smoke, fumes, dust, or heat buildup cannot be controlled.
7. Software and Settings Review
Settings should be reviewed regularly to avoid unintended operation.
Before production work:
• Confirm the correct process, recipe, program, or parameter set is selected.
• Verify power, speed, pulse, wire feed, wobble, gas, or cleaning settings as applicable.
• Check user access, saved programs, and any lockout settings if supported.
• Review error logs or alerts if the system reports abnormal conditions.
• Avoid changing factory or manufacturer parameters unless authorized.
Record significant setting changes so operators can trace performance or quality differences.
8. Consumables and Spare Parts
Keeping critical consumables available can reduce downtime.
Common items to monitor may include:
• Protective windows, lenses, nozzles, and optical covers.
• Wire, tips, shields, clamps, brushes, or cleaning accessories.
• Filters, coolant, seals, hoses, and fittings.
• Safety eyewear, warning labels, and other safety-related items.
• Manufacturer-specific wear parts listed in the equipment manual.
Use genuine or manufacturer-approved replacement parts when required.
9. Maintenance Recordkeeping
Maintain a simple service log for each laser system.
Records should include:
• Inspection dates and operator initials.
• Cleaning, optic replacement, coolant service, and filter changes.
• Error messages, alarms, unusual behavior, or downtime events.
• Parts replaced, serial numbers, and supplier or manufacturer notes.
• Photos when damage, contamination, or abnormal wear is found.
Good records help with warranty coordination, troubleshooting, training, and long-term equipment planning.
10. When to Contact Support
Contact LSI Industrial or the manufacturer if:
• The equipment shows repeated alarms, shutdowns, or abnormal behavior.
• Laser output, weld quality, cleaning performance, or beam behavior changes unexpectedly.
• Optics, cables, connectors, cooling components, or safety systems appear damaged.
• You are unsure whether a part should be cleaned, adjusted, or replaced.
• The system was dropped, impacted, exposed to moisture, or operated under abnormal conditions.
Do not continue operating equipment if a condition may affect safety, warranty coverage, or machine reliability.
